Codonopsis (scientific name; Codonopsis pilosula (Franch.) Nannf. Campanbulaceae is a perennial herbaceous plant with milk. Stem base with mostly tumor-like stem marks, roots often hypertrophied spindle-like or spindle-cylindrical, stem entangled, sterile or first bearing flowers, yellow-green or yellow-white, leaves alternately on main stem and lateral branches, petioles with short spines, leaves ovate or narrowly ovate, margins with wavy blunt serrations, green above, gray-green below, flowers single at the end of branches, alternating or nearly opposite to petioles, corolla superior, broad bell-shaped, lobes regular triangular, anthers elongated, seeds numerous, ovate, fruiting in July-October.

It is found in mountain forest edges and shrublands at an altitude of 1560-3100 meters in northern China. Codonopsis is a traditional tonic commonly used in China, and in ancient times, the ginseng produced in the Shangdang area of Shanxi was used as the top grade, which has the effect of tonifying qi, strengthening the spleen and benefiting the lungs. Codonopsis has the functions of enhancing immunity, expanding blood vessels, lowering blood pressure, improving microcirculation, and enhancing hematopoietic function.
